Nearly there!

Here I am on the eve of the 27th of November and I’m less than 2000 words away from the 50K target!  This means, theoretically, if the word count I’ve managed the past few days continues, I could finish tomorrow.

Ready or Not itself isn’t quite ready to be called done though.  Completing NaNoWriMo will put me at right around 92k – 100k words, but like with Love or Lust the final tally will probably be closer to 135k – 140k.  This story is heavier on the slice of life element and so the chapters and scenes feel a bit more glimpse in time, or anecdotal.  It’s sweet, it’s romantic, but it also has tragedy and eroticism.

I’m quite curious to see where this goes.  Especially since once I’ve found out I’ll actually know how their junior year is going to go.  Pity it’s not likely to include a week in Paris again — that was fun.  Maybe Rome or Naples next year, hmmm.

Good night all

Finally, on target

Well, still sucked into NaNoWriMo.  It’s, honestly, done me some small good.  I’ve somehow learnt how to overcome getting stuck.  Honestly, nothing for the past dozen days is anything new.  I’ve written more word count by far in less time before (one point in writing Love or Lust I’d managed something like 10,000 words in a day … despite doing things like eating, being at work, having pets to care for, and so on.  Still, a deadline that isn’t self-imposed does help encourage me to write at least a few hundred words a day.  Somehow I’ve actually accomplished it.

It was a slow start.  No words the first day, 860 the next.  As of yesterday, though, I’m on track to finish by the 30th not only by my own count, but by NaNoWriMo’s.  It’s nice the damned thing finally agrees with me.

It’s been fun, I got to take the girls to Paris.

Hurray! Word count progresses!

I’m kind of glad I decided to do chapter 9 and on through the end of November as part of NaNoWriMo. It’s working out pretty well. I normally need little to no incentive to write, it’s usually more common for me to need incentive to stop writing. But we all have bad days, and I was beginning to have a pretty bad autumn so this gave me the little bit of a boost I needed.

Any wondering why my word count is always a multiple of 5 (except when I make a typo entering my word count update) it’s because of how I write. Everything is done pen on paper first then typed later. It’s easier for me. I can type very fast, but the keyboard and word processor get in the way, also … as fast as I type is nothing compared to the speed I can think and write so, there you have it. Also means I don’t have to try to figure out where to put a laptop or tablet (which I’m an awful, horrible typist on) every time I get inspired. I just need a solid surface of approximately 8½ inches by 11 inches, infinitely easier to do.

I’m off to revitalise by brain with some video games, then it’s back to the grindstone.

A slow start

Well, I didn’t get anywhere yesterday. I wrote, but I trashed it – I’d utterly screwed up a whole scene then was too tired to stay awake.

Today I got two whole pages done. Could have been more but work was excessively busy and left me little chance to put together a coherent thought, then at home my puppy was rather enamoured with playing fetch with me … life, suffice to say, conspired against me. I hope to put a real dent in Chapter 9 tomorrow.

Goodnight all.

National Novel Writer’s Month

I’m going into November with an open mind on how to cure my writer’s block.

Well, almost. If you suggest note cards, outlines, and other similar nonsense I’ve a supply of crosses, stakes, and holy water laid by to deal with you.

I’ve heard of NaNoWriMo, but never really thought much of it. To each her own, kind of thing, but not my bag of chips really. How quickly I completed Love or Lust, from first spark of idea to “The End” has left me feeling that I could easily enough do 50k words in a week (I actually did something like 10k in a day in February, but it was murder on my wrists, they’ve never been the same since!). So, I’m stuck, and in a fit of “well, now what?” I decided to do this.

As I already have nearly 50K words done, I’m obviously not counting any of that word count. I’ll be doing it rebel style (I’ve never cared a lot for rules, really) and my NaNoWriMo word count is being applied to Ready or Not.

I’ll probably post occasional status updates saying how things fare.
